Mid Carnivore
Baryonyx
Baryonyx walkeri
“Walker's heavy claw”
Fast riverside carnivore — sticks close to water, ambushes from the bank.

In The Isle
Baryonyx should stick close to water sources and hide in the water if larger predators like Carnotaurus or Allosaurus come around — only when the threat is gone can it return to fishing or hunting. It preys on creatures smaller than itself: fish, Psittacosaurus, Dryosaurus, Austroraptor, Velociraptor, and Herrerasaurus. The standard land-hunting playbook is to crouch and stay hidden so you aren't spotted, wait for prey to sit and rest, then charge in and bite repeatedly until they're down. In Legacy, Baryonyx was originally planned for Progression but has been relegated to AI in Survival due to its relatively fast speed compared to other carnivores; it's currently only playable in Sandbox mode. Baryonyx is confirmed to come to Evrima sometime after Update #6, with improved models (and an Elder variant) revealed on 5/17/2025.
In Real Life
Baryonyx was about 8.5 m in length and weighed roughly 1.5 tons — although the holotype specimen may not have been fully grown at time of death. It was a generalist carnivore that preyed on both fish and other dinosaurs. Although it probably lived near water, Baryonyx shows none of the swimming adaptations of the more derived Suchomimus, indicating it likely wasn't as aquatically inclined. It probably used its teeth and large claws as weapons for procuring food.

- • Effective near water — fish + hide kit
Strengths & Weaknesses
- + Very fast
- + Long sprint time and a good turn radius
- + Small stomach — quick to fill
- + Can overpower Utahraptors and Dilos
- + More damage + bleed per bite than Utahraptor thanks to superior weight
- + Crouches quickly
- − Low damage and bleed damage for its size
- − Drinks very slowly (~2% per sip)
- − Low health pool
- − Easy to tailride
- − Prone to tripping
Behavior
Bary players patrol shorelines — fish for food, ambush land prey that wanders too close, and dive into water when larger predators show up. Direct land brawling against apex carnivores is a losing trade.
