In The Isle

A medium-tier dinosaur and the first true semi-aquatic omnivore on the roster. Beipiaosaurus swims through rivers and eats aquatic flora, fish, and small reptiles to satisfy its omnivorous diet — its massively clawed forelimbs serve triple duty: anchoring it to rocks and riverbeds against strong currents, slashing prey, and defending against smaller predators. It often shares habitats with the Deinosuchus, which has made Beipi a rather aggressive and bad-tempered animal in its own right. By day it stays in or near water, feeding on aquatic plants, crabs, fish, and frogs; by night it ventures inland under cover of darkness to forage on vegetation. Faster on land than the previous generation but still outpaced by most creatures — its real agility shines in the water, where it can dive, breach like a dolphin, and travel long distances along waterways to cut through perilous terrain.

In Real Life

Beipiaosaurus was a small therizinosauroid dinosaur from the Early Cretaceous of China. It is the second-largest dinosaur found with direct physical evidence of feathers. Despite its in-game ecology, the real Beipiaosaurus was not semi-aquatic.

Abilities

  • Long slashing claws on each hand — high damage for size class
  • Unmatched agility in water; dives and breaches
  • Claw-walks the riverbed to counteract natural buoyancy
  • Above-average wound sealing, especially in water
  • Can travel long distances along waterways efficiently

Strengths & Weaknesses

Pros
  • + Unmatched agility in water — dives, breaches, claw-walks
  • + Long slashing claws on both hands
  • + Above-average wound sealing
  • + Long travel range along waterways
  • + Adaptable omnivorous diet — eats plants, fish, crabs, frogs, small prey
Cons
  • Outpaced on land by most creatures
  • Naturally buoyant — must claw-walk to stay submerged
  • Highly susceptible to Deinosuchus predation in shared waters
  • Small stature — limited combat options against medium+ predators

Behavior

Aggressive, bad-tempered, and water-anchored. Beipi players stay in or near water during the day for safety, then venture inland at night to feed on vegetation. Direct land combat against larger predators is a losing proposition — water is always the closest viable exit.
