Apex Carnivore
Carnotaurus
Carnotaurus sastrei
“Sastre's Meat-eating bull”
Charging menace — fastest dinosaur in the game, ram-down-prey playstyle.

In The Isle
In The Isle, Carnotaurus is a charging menace — capable of running at blistering speeds to ram down prey with its crushing bulk. If you're caught in the open by a Carnotaurus there's often nowhere to hide. It's the fastest dinosaur in the game, hitting up to 52 km/h with decent stamina, though its immense speed is held back by a poor turn radius while running. Its great speed lets it ambush and catch quick prey such as Dryosaurus and Utahraptor/Omniraptor, and in Evrima a well-aimed charge attack can stun medium-sized prey for roughly 2–3 seconds. The Carnotaurus' preferred diet is Pachycephalosaurus and Tenontosaurus for carbs, and Utahraptor/Omniraptor, Troodon, Dryosaurus, and Deer for lipids — most of which roam the plains and arid regions. Its great speed grants it few natural predators (it can outrun nearly any threat), but a fully grown Deinosuchus can still grab and drown an adult.
In Real Life
Carnotaurus lived during the lower Maastrichtian of the Late Cretaceous, inhabiting what is now Argentina between 72 and 69.9 million years ago. It's notable for being the fastest known non-avian dinosaur — capable of reaching speeds of up to 56 km/h (34.8 mph) in real life, thanks to a massively enlarged caudofemoralis muscle that pulled the leg back faster. The trade-off was that Carnotaurus had to turn the hip and tail simultaneously to make turns — though turning was probably unnecessary, as it likely ambushed prey in a straight sprint. Despite these powerful leg and hip muscles, its arms were incredibly small and probably vestigial.
Abilities
- • Fastest dinosaur in the game — up to ~52 km/h (Legacy) / 55.6 km/h (Evrima)
- • Charge attack stuns medium-sized prey ~2–3 seconds (Evrima)
- • Decent stamina pool
- • Strong bite for its size
- • Good bleed resistance and fairly good bleed recovery
Strengths & Weaknesses
- + Fastest creature in the game (Survival)
- + Can stun medium-sized creatures with a charge attack
- + Decent stamina
- + Relatively strong bite for its size
- + Good bleed resistance and fairly good bleed heal
- + Few natural predators — can outrun nearly anything
- − Easily killed by larger creatures — especially Stegosaurus
- − Great difficulty turning while running
- − Loud — footsteps can be heard before it's seen
- − Abysmal stamina regeneration
- − Vulnerable to Deinosuchus grab + drown in water
Behavior
Carno players hit and disengage — line up a charge, ram a target for stun damage, then reposition. Carnos that try to brawl tend to die. Few natural predators on land thanks to raw speed; main threats are Deinosuchus grabs near water and Stegosaurus tail swings in stand-up fights.
Growth
Total ~2h 15min (135 min) on Evrima from Hatchling through Adult.
