Apex Carnivore
Ceratosaurus
Ceratosaurus nasicornis
“Furrow-toothed horn lizard”
The oversized honey badger of the Isle — bacterial bite, iron stomach, vicious bully.

In The Isle
Nimble, strong, and stout — Ceratosaurus is a medium-sized carnivore that hunts small-to-mid-sized creatures and dominates as a scavenger. Its preferred prey includes Pachycephalosaurus, Dilophosaurus, young Allosaurus, smaller sub-adult apex predators, and juveniles of larger species. With powerful jaws and exceptional agility (especially in forested terrain), it can outmaneuver similarly-sized opponents and easily steal kills from smaller predators. Against actual apex predators it has to run — direct confrontation usually ends in its death. Ceratosaurus's signature gameplay identity in Evrima is its bacterial bite + iron stomach: it can detect rotting corpses, vomit, and bones from great distances, eats them without negative side effects, and the bacteria loaded into its mouth from doing so causes prolonged vomiting damage on anything it bites — even creatures larger than itself. The only counter to the bacterial DoT is a salt lick or waiting it out. While actively eating, Ceratosaurus becomes immune to damage below a certain threshold, letting it shrug off harassment from smaller carnivores. Cannibalism is also on the menu — it eats other Ceratosaurus, so packmates can turn on each other when food runs short.
In Real Life
Ceratosaurus was a medium-sized carnivore that preyed on smaller dinosaurs like Dryosaurus, as well as fish, crocodiles, and other small-to-mid-sized animals — its only competitor being Allosaurus. It had a large skull with large teeth and short but powerful front limbs, likely using its head as its main weapon. One of its most distinctive features was the nasal crest from which the name derives, almost certainly used for display rather than combat. A row of osteoderms ran down its back (also display, not armor), and its tail comprised about half its total body length. Ceratosaurus retained the ancestral fourth finger that most contemporary theropods had lost. Fossils have been found in the Morrison Formation of North America and the Lourinhã Formation of Portugal.
Abilities
- • Bacterial bite — applies a vomit DoT that affects targets larger than itself
- • Exceptional scent range — detects rotting corpses, bones, and vomit from far away
- • Iron stomach — eats any meat, organs, or bones regardless of freshness, no penalty
- • Charged bite (Adult): ~345 N — significantly stronger than a standard bite
- • Damage immunity threshold while eating — ignores small attacks
- • Bleed resistance with temporary bleed reduction until sufficiently wounded
Strengths & Weaknesses
- + High stamina
- + Exceptional scent range
- + Good bleed resistance
- + Fast attack speed
- + Charged / bacterial bite
- + Scavenger — can eat anything, no negative side effects
- + Very dangerous around corpses
- + Damage-immune while eating (below threshold)
- − Slow for its size
- − Low hunger time
- − High food consumption — single Cera depletes corpses fast
- − Bad pure hunter — better at scavenging than active predation
- − Cannibal — part of its own diet, so packmates can betray each other
Behavior
Cera players are scavenger-bullies — patrol decay zones, defend corpses aggressively (food-aggressive chuff when approached), and pick fights with anything they out-mass. Against apex predators they outrun rather than brawl. Cannibalistic, so don't trust your own packmates when food runs low.
Growth
Legacy: ~2.5 hours (150 min) from Juvenile to Adult — Hatch 0.5h, Juvenile 0.8h, Adult 1.5h.
