In The Isle

Gallimimus is a relatively defenseless dinosaur that relies on its high speed and large stamina pool to outrun pursuing predators. It can kick with its legs — dangerous to smaller predators like Herrerasaurus and Austroraptor — but it's best to flee anything more durable. A Galli with a broken leg is easy prey for any carnivore. Currently the fastest herbivore in the game on a normal sprint, with the longest-lasting stamina. Faster carnivores like Utahraptor (ambush) and Carnotaurus (sprint) can still catch one, so herding with Stegosaurus, Triceratops, or Shantungosaurus is recommended — Galli's speed + stamina also make it a perfect herd scout. Skittish by nature, Gallimimus strongly prefers flight over fight and tries to remain in perpetual motion. It can use a **mobilization call** to give itself and its flock a temporary movement boost. While primarily plant-eating, Gallimimus is an omnivore — it also eats eggs of other species, frogs, crabs, and hatchlings, which makes some other animals view it as a constant threat to their young. Diet: **Mangos (carbs)**, **Sunchoke roots + Pumpkins (lipids)**, **Sumac (proteins)** — all out in the open, no concealment. Pumpkins and Sumac put Galli in competition with Stegosaurus. It also subsists on small game — **Crabs (carbs)** along the coasts and **Bullfrogs (proteins)** in wetlands — via a unique **foraging mechanic** that digs these creatures out of the ground (scent reveals forage spots as a claw-shaped icon). Note: top speed is diet-dependent, and a pack leader's diet can influence the top speed of the flock when in formation.

In Real Life

Gallimimus was one of the largest ornithomimosaurs — about 2 m tall at the hip and around 8 m long. It was discovered in the Nemegt Formation of Mongolia, where the giant ornithomimosaur Deinocheirus was also found. It was probably herbivorous (omnivory has also been suggested) and was likely preyed on by tyrannosaurids Alioramus and Tarbosaurus. Its build was typical for an ornithomimid — long neck, small head, long legs, long tail. Adaptations to a cursorial (running) lifestyle include a strong ilium, heavy tail base, long tibia, long metatarsus, and short toes. Despite these features, it's unknown exactly how fast Gallimimus actually was. Trivia: its species name refers to a bulla — a capsule-shaped amulet worn by Roman youth.

Abilities

  • Top sprint speed of any herbivore (49.7 km/h, diet-dependent)
  • Mobilization call — temporary flock-wide speed boost
  • Kick attack — dangerous to small carnivores
  • Foraging mechanic — dig crabs and bullfrogs out of the ground
  • Flock-leader diet influence — leader's nutrition affects flock top speed
  • Best Z-walk turn radius in the game

Strengths & Weaknesses

Pros
  • + Perfect explorer — extreme range
  • + Highest stamina-run time in Survival
  • + 4th fastest dinosaur in Survival
  • + Can easily blend into surroundings
  • + Can easily out-turn Carnotaurus (its main threat)
  • + Best Z-walk turn radius
  • + Extremely fast and agile overall
  • + Fastest trot of any Survival dinosaur
  • + "A good Galli is untouchable"
Cons
  • Cannot attack with a broken leg
  • Can be ambushed off-guard
  • Low health and heal rate
  • Drinks slowly
  • Bad stamina regeneration
  • Can be bled out by a single Utahraptor bite

Behavior

Galli plays as a scout and flock leader — keep moving, never stop where danger can arrive, and use the mobilization call to keep the whole group fast. Solo Gallis are vulnerable to ambush; herd Gallis stick to Stego/Trike/Shant groups for defense.

Growth
