Mid Carnivore
Herrerasaurus
Herrerasaurus ischigualastensis
“Herrera's lizard (from the Ischigualasto Formation)”
Small, fast, tree-climbing carnivore — pounces from above for one-shot damage.

In The Isle
Herrerasaurus is a small animal that can be easily killed by larger creatures — its favored prey are Dryosaurus and Psittacosaurus. Its small size makes ambushing easy, and its fast speed lets it run down small herbivores; it can also scavenge from other carnivores, though that's risky since anything bigger will gladly kill it. In Legacy, Herrera is the fastest dinosaur in the game — its running speed is almost identical to a Utahraptor's ambush. In Evrima, Herrera gains a signature **tree-climbing pounce**: climb a tree, line up the drop, and crash down onto prey for ~400–450 damage (scales with weight and fall distance) — enough to one-shot an Omniraptor on a clean hit. The roadmap puts it: "If you find yourself in dense jungle, don't forget to look up."
In Real Life
Herrerasaurus was found in the Ischigualasto Formation of Argentina and measured around 6 meters long. Its legs were strong with a short thigh and rather long foot, indicating it was a fairly swift runner. It lived in a volcanically active floodplain covered by forests with strong seasonal rainfall, and likely preyed on small-to-medium-sized animals such as the small ornithischian Pisanosaurus, rhynchosaurs, and synapsids. It was probably preyed on by Saurosuchus — puncture wounds matching that large crocodylomorph were found in a Herrerasaurus skull. Due to its basal status, the skull was more similar to early archosaurs like Euparkeria than to more derived theropods, and its placement in the dinosaur tree has bounced around: initially described as an early carnosaur, then a prosauropod, a basal saurischian, a basal dinosaur, and even outside Dinosauria — currently regarded as either a basal saurischian or a basal theropod.
Abilities
- • Tree climbing + tree pounce (Evrima) — drop from height for ~400–450 damage
- • Ctrl key to fall faster from a tree (precision drops)
- • Very high fall-damage resistance — practically immune to most falls
- • Bone icon (instead of footprint) shows when a jump-down would be lethal
- • Fast bone-fracture recovery
- • High base sprint speed and tight turn radius
Strengths & Weaknesses
- + Fastest dinosaur in the game (Legacy)
- + Fastest trot in the game (Legacy)
- + Small size — easy to hunt unseen and easy to hide
- + High stamina (Legacy)
- + Easy to hide in foliage
- + Fixes broken bones quickly
- + Very slow food and water drop (Legacy)
- + Good turn radius
- + Tree climbing in Evrima — plus Ctrl to drop faster
- + Very high fall-damage resistance (near-immune to most falls)
- − Very low health and damage — relies on the pounce mechanic for kill power
- − Very slow food and water intake (Legacy)
- − Very low food amount per stomach
- − Easy to break legs (Legacy)
- − Absurd climbing speed (slow to scale a tree)
- − Slow swimming speed
Behavior
Herrera plays the jungle — climb into the canopy, spot prey, drop onto small/mid targets for the pounce kill. Speed makes it a strong scout and a survivable solo pick if you stay near terrain you can climb. Direct land brawls against mid+ carnivores are a losing trade.
Growth
Total ~1h 40min (100 min) in Evrima.
