In The Isle

Tenontosaurus is a hardy herbivore with an explosive array of attacks for different situations. Quick bites and claw swipes chip away at small creatures like Utahraptor; slow but powerful kicks and a crushing tail slam deal heavy damage and apply a **2-second stun** on hit. Bites are stamina-free and chase-friendly; claws add bleed but slightly slow your run; the kick is a stun-and-knockback (with a ~0.3s wind-up) and the tail slam is the heavy nuke (huge damage + stun, ~0.5s wind-up, can't be used while moving, costs heavy stamina). The roadmap framing: "Beauty and grace define the Tenontosaurus. They prefer to live in peace, but don't let their appearance fool you — they can be as dangerous as they are elegant." Tenontosaurus was added to The Isle in Patch 0.1.9.2053.

In Real Life

Tenontosaurus was a medium ornithopod from Early Cretaceous North America. It lived alongside Deinonychus and Acrocanthosaurus, and its tail was almost as long as the rest of its body.

Abilities

  • Bite (LMB) — moderate damage, no stamina cost, usable while running
  • Claw (LMB + Alt) — moderate damage + bleed, slightly slows your run
  • Backward kick (RMB) — knockback + 2-second stun, ~0.3s wind-up
  • Backward tail slam (RMB + Alt) — huge damage + stun, ~0.5s wind-up, can't be used while moving
  • Very fast for a herbivore — strong combatant overall

Strengths & Weaknesses

Pros
  • + Very fast
  • + Quick turning
  • + Backward tail slam has surprisingly high damage
  • + Very strong overall combatant
  • + Multiple attack types let it adapt to any opponent size
Cons
  • Both Utahraptor and Carnotaurus are faster than it
  • Very slow during early life stages
  • Inconsistent attack hit-boxes (current bug) can lose engagements
  • Tail slam locks you in place — punishable if missed

Behavior

Tenonto plays positional combat — uses bite/claw to chip nimble carnivores, then turns its rear into the threat to land kicks and tail slams. Chain tail slams after a stun for kills: only four tail slams will drop a Carnotaurus.

Growth

Total ~1h 45min (105 min) from Hatch to Adult on a good diet (Juvenile→Sub-Adult ~1h 20min, Sub-Adult→Adult ~1h 10min).

Controls

LMB — bite (moderate, free, run-compatible). LMB + Alt — claw swipe (moderate + bleed; slightly slows running). RMB — backward kick (knockback + 2s stun, ~0.3s delay, stamina cost, usable while running). RMB + Alt — backward tail slam (huge damage + 2s stun, ~0.5s delay, heavy stamina cost, CANNOT be used while moving).
